Carven Resort 2014

I am absolutely in love with Carven (maybe even a little obsessed, but it's totally healthy, I swear). I seriously adore the way Guillaume Henry uses cut-outs in his dress designs, and especially his careful blending of delicate patterns and fabrics. His designs are so classic, yet there is something so edgy about them. The silhouettes of each collection are totally classic yet innovative time and time again.

So, Carven's most recent collection is the Resort 2014 collection. It's got a delicate color scheme of browns, pinks, and yellows, all used in such a harmonious and careful way. That color combination reminds me of the 60s, and the collection definitely has a nostalgic vibe. The patterns he used are definitely reminiscent of a bygone-era.

Definitely a 60s vibe. I want that jacket and shorts combo. And that cut-out platform heels/ A-line skirt combo! And who doesn't love a shift dress + cute little collar combo?
Seriously, Carven will never let me down.

I just wanted to quickly share my love for beautiful French design :)
That's all for now!

DIY origami skirt (cont.)

It's finally complete! I kept getting distracted by things like school and tiredness and  NOT TO MENTION simply not wanting to sit down to just get this skirt done, but I finally finished it up!

I added two darts in the back for the A-Line silhouette. This skirt wasn't too difficult to make. The positioning of the panels and the waistband was a little difficult to get just right, however. I wanted them to fall a certain way, so I had to play around with them a bit.

I didn't use a pattern with this skirt because...well...patterns frustrate me...so much. I think it turned out pretty cool anyway, though. I can't wait to wear it! The weather has been perfect (maybe a touch too warm for my taste) for short-skirting it. It's short-skirt weather.
So........moving on, I suppose.
I went to Fabricland today and bought two fabrics. I only got two yards of each because I've been on a skirt-making rampage and they were kind of pricey anyway. I bought:
  • cotton twill fabric in black - I'm thinking a scalloped edge is gonna be involved with this one. Perhaps another A-Line skirt?
  • some kind of lycra satin fabric in SILVER! So excited about this one. It's nice and shiny and will totally make for an awesome and unique skirt. Maybe something with pleats?
Here's some ideas that I might go with for these fabrics:

I really like the quilted section in the front of this skirt. I'm thinking this is what I'm gonna do with the silver fabric, since it's got a bit of stretch in it. Instead of quilting the front, however, I'm gonna weave the strips of fabric together.

For the black twill fabric: definitely scallops. I saw a bodycon skirt with a scalloped edge on NastyGal a while ago, but I don't like the whole aspect of it being a bodycon skirt. So I'm thinking of maybe making it more A-line and adding a slit in the back? We shall see!

nastygal.com - Definitely love the edge of this skirt, but not really diggin' the silhouette
That's all for now! :)

DIY origami skirt

Here is my first post! Ooh, how exciting. So, I'm working on a skirt, and I've decided to share my experience with you.
I really like the origami/asian inspired spring trend:

I've also been inspired by the Zara origami skort. I like the minimalistic hemline, so I'm incorporating that into my own version.

I bought some scrap fabric a while ago. It's only about .75 yards of it, but I loved it so much, so I got it anyway. I don't even know what kind of fabric it is, but it's perfect for a skirt. It's nice and sturdy, but not too thick, and the texture is so lovely!
I've cut out all the shapes so far, and I've started piecing them together. I cut out a waistband, two back panels, and two overlapping front panels that will become the "origami" aspect of the skirt:

Lovely gray fabric!
It's going to be an A-line skirt, and to make the front appear even more atypical, I made the back panels a little longer. I also rounded the corners to contrast with the two pointed corners of the front panels. I've been winging it this whole time, so hopefully this will turn out the way I envision it!
I'll post more as I work on it further.
